ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station is pleased to announce its 4th Annual Illuminate the Season temporary light art installation, “Toying with Light” by San Diego based artist, Nico Meyer!

Nico Meyer is not only an artist, but also a structural engineer who has spent over 10 years fabricating metal and wood sculptures. He holds a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering which deeply influences his artistic practice. Nico’s experience with mathematics, structures, and algorithms allows him to explore the beauty of contrast, simplicity versus complexity, and uniformity versus randomness within his works. Nico’s selected ARTS DISTRICT piece promises to bring these unique themes and structural elements into an interactive installation we can’t wait to share!

When asked about his “Toying with Light” installation piece, Nico said, “Our brains are pattern-making machines. Individuals and communities actively create and alter patterns. This piece represents shared experience, a quality that makes the holidays special.”

The grand lighting of Nico’s kinetic light sculpture will take place on November 30th, just before the Liberty Station Tree Lighting & Holiday Festivities event which kicks off our annual Salute the Season holiday programming! Nico’s piece will be up through the holiday season - we hope to see you there!
