The Guardian – Wings of Sacrifice

A Lasting Tribute to the Navy’s 250-Year Legacy

Launching in early 2026, Liberty Station will unveil a public art installation honoring the U.S. Navy’s 250 years of service, created in collaboration with acclaimed artist Joe Pisano and supported by the Resurrecting Lives Foundation.

Inspired by Pisano’s powerful work The Guardian – Wings of Sacrifice, the installation will serve as a visual tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of those who have served. Displayed within the Arts District at Liberty Station, the piece will invite reflection while reinforcing the site’s historic role as the former Naval Training Center.

The installation will include a commemorative plaque detailing Liberty Station’s naval history, along with QR codes linking to select Tell Us Your NTC Stories videos—allowing visitors to hear firsthand accounts from those who trained and served here. Together, these elements create an immersive, educational experience that honors the Navy’s legacy during this milestone anniversary year.
