USS BRAVE

The 12-man rowboat, also called whaleboat, was an important part of recruit training - both for the practice of rowing, but also for team building and competition. Each sailor had to work together, paddling long, hard, and in sync to get the boat where it needed to go. Many of these boats were used in the nearby boat channel, with multiple slips and piers to accommodate them.

This work of art, created by artist Jonathan Allen, is called the USS Brave and is in honor to the sailors who gave their lives to service and celebrate the creation of community at Liberty Station.
