Quilts Japan: The 17th Quilt Nihon Opening
On June 27, 2026, Visions Museum of Textile Art will host the opening reception for its summer exhibitions featuring solo exhibitions by Portuguese artist Marita Setas Ferro and San Diego artist Kathleen McCabe, alongside Quilts Japan: The 17th Quilt Nihon. This exhibition presents award-winning works from the biennial competition organized by the Japanese Handicraft Instructor’s Association (JHIA), one of the most prestigious international quilt competitions in the world. To complement the exhibition, the opening reception will offer visitors an immersive introduction to Japanese culture through multiple artistic and cultural experiences connected to the traditions represented in the exhibition. The program will begin with a performance of traditional Japanese dance and music by a local cultural organization, followed by a presentation introducing visitors to the art of Japanese quilt making and its relationship to the works featured in the exhibition.
