Mid-Century Modern Improv - VMOTA Members-Only Workshop with Serena Brooks

Join award-winning artist Serena Brooks for a full-day, hands-on workshop focused on modern quilt improvisation inspired by classic mid-century design. You’ll explore clean lines, organic shapes, and bold composition techniques in a supportive and creative environment.

Workshop Description

In this 6-hour session, participants will begin by “sketching” original block designs using black and white cardstock (provided by the instructor). These paper sketches will serve as inspiration to create dynamic textile compositions using solid fabrics and machine piecing.

You’ll learn:

· How to cut and piece fabric blocks, with or without a ruler (demos of both methods included)

· Key design principles using value and color to strengthen your composition

· Ideas and approaches for quilting your finished work

This workshop is all about freeing yourself from rigid patterns and learning to trust your creative instincts.
