ARTS DISTRICT Emerging Artist Solo Show: Y LO QUE EL VIENTO NO SE LLEVA, EN LA TIERRA QUEDA
NTC Foundation proudly presents Y LO QUE EL VIENTO NO SE LLEVA, EN LA TIERRA QUEDA, a solo show by ARTS DISTRICT Emerging Artist Leslye Villaseñor.
When the wind sweeps the land, it can take with it happenings, voices as small echoes roaming through the earth's darkest and most hidden corners. When these are gone, only ghosts, memories, and emotions are left, permeating the natural landscape and what is abandoned in them, shifting, shaping, and reflecting as a mirror of what once was.
In this end-of-residency exhibition, Leslye Villaseñor presents a collection of paintings portraying hidden objects and their surrounding environments found throughout the Otay Valley Regional Park in South San Diego. These once-precious possessions are remnants of what was left behind by the families of those who have lost their lives in the park. Lost through time, these found objects eventually decay and vanish, blending with the natural environment. They tell stories from their past lives and from those who once possessed them, glistening through leaves and dirt, to those unique few who can see them.
“This exhibition is the realization of a meaningful project that I carried with me throughout my stay at the ARTS DISTRICT. As an emerging artist, having a space for myself helped me develop my ideas and fully explore their possibilities”.
