Locally Foraged Acorn & Gall Natural Dye & Shibori

Learn to dye with locally foraged Acorns & Oak Galls!
Saturday, October 26, 1-4pm
No experience necessary. Ages 14+ Welcome!
Natural dyes are super popular right now, and for all the right reasons. And ’tis the season to learn to dye with plentiful acorns & galls! In instructor Jeanine Ertl’s experiential workshop, you’ll learn the basics of dyeing with both Acorns and Galls, ancient dye-stuffs native to Southern California. You’ll also learn to Shibori dye two gorgeous warm browns and dipping for inky charcoal grey highlights. Learn to create your own creative color and pattern with the bounty of the season.
In this workshop, students will receive instruction on foraging for dyestuffs; Acorn & Gall dye prep; instruction on basic Shibori technique; and 2 Natural fiber fabrics to Shibori & dye. Students are welcome to bring along a glass jar or two (these can be old jars that are cleaned or new ones, as long as they have a tightly sealing lid), and are welcome to take home natural dye from our class so you can continue to experiment and explore at home!
