Beginner Lathe | Woodturning a Drop Spindle
Fiber Fest Drop Spindles!
We are excited to offer this fun woodworking workshop for Fiber Fest! Join us for a morning of fiber & woodworking friendship and camaraderie.
This workshop is geared for fiber enthusiasts, menders, and beginners interested in making their own drop spindles for spinning yarn. This is a special offering in conjunction with Fiber Fest, a 3-day celebration of wool as a sustainable material. This 3-hour woodworking workshop will acquaint students with a woodturning lathe, its parts, the tools needed, safety tips, tool sharpening techniques and how to shape wood on a lathe. The class will consist of students learning to round a piece of square stock, learning the four basic cuts and turning a drop spindle as their take home project. This is a beginner-friendly workshop which is open to all genders.
This class is appropriate for ages 16 years and older.
All materials included.
This workshop is part of Craft Collective’s first-ever Fiber Fest! You’re invited to join in the festivities the day before, on Saturday, June 8th, for a day filled with fiber fun! A presentation from Southern California Fibershed, a Merino sheep shearing demo & talk, lathe, wet felting and spinning demos, free kids crafts, a fun macrame’ make & take craft, an epic fiber & fabric swap, a yarn sale from Apricot Yarn, and more!
