Many people think they want to be a travel writer, but what they really want is to get paid to drink margaritas on the beach all day.  Join full time travel writer Ray Bartlett for a fun look at the realities behind the myths.  If you’ve thought seriously about being a travel writer, or wondered how to start, this is the class for you.

Ray will get you working on your short, medium, and long-term travel writing goals, discuss his own road to being a writer, read from his work, and answer any questions.  Students should plan on workshopping their own work in class, as we will be doing several writing exercises designed to hone your skills.

Ray Bartlett has been writing guidebooks for Lonely Planet, Insight Guides, and Moon for over a decade, and his work appears innumerous newspapers, magazines, radio, and online publications.  The author of _Sunsets of Tulum_, a dark love story set in exotic Yucatan, and the forthcoming novel _The Potter’s Daughter_, set in southern Japan, he is the go-to guy for “destination fiction”: novels set so perfectly in a place that you’ll finish them and need to go there.  When not on the road, Ray divides his time between Cape Cod and Baja, Mexico, drinking way too much coffee and burning way too much midnight oil.  His hobbies include surfing, ceramics, mixology, and dancing Argentine Tango.
