Learn to compose thought-provoking personal essays about topics that interest you from today’s news to your favorite places in nature, family memories and more. The personal essay is not the 5-paragraph essay you learned in school but a more reflective – and sometimes humorous – form that takes the writer and reader on an unhurried stroll from first sentence to last. Personal essays appear as newspaper op-eds, short magazine articles, online posts, memoir chapters and in essay collections compiled by one author or another.

The successful personal essay is relaxed but not without a form which you’ll learn in this series. Handouts will be provided to offer examples, and writers will have the opportunity to workshop two short essays and one revision in this comfortable setting. Beginners are welcome and will be treated with TLC.

Please Note: This is a four session class, Thursdays, June 8, 15, 22, 29, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Class size is limited to six.
